Cuttle Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy for Cuttle
Last Updated: October 12, 2026
Introduction
Cuttle ("we", "our", or "us") is a desktop application for writing, playing, and debugging interactive fiction written in the ink scripting language. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use Cuttle.
Information We Collect
Cuttle does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There are no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Cuttle does not connect to the internet in the course of normal use. We do not:
- Collect your name, email address, or any other personal information
- Require you to create an account or sign in
- Track your location
- Access your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera
- Use analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs
- Use third-party advertising networks
- Upload your stories or any part of your files anywhere
- Sell or share data with anyone
Your Files
Cuttle works with plain .ink files on your computer. It reads and writes only
the files and folders you explicitly choose through the system open and save dialogs. Your
stories, project files, and any edits you make stay on your device and are never sent to us
or to anyone else. The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox, which restricts it to the
locations you have granted access to.
Local App Data
To make the app convenient to use, Cuttle keeps a small amount of data on your device: the list of projects you have recently opened (so the Recent menu can reopen them), your chosen entry file for each project, window size and position, and any runtime state you choose to save from the preview panel. This data is stored locally in the app's own support folder and never leaves your computer. If you remove the app, this data is removed with it.
External Links
The Help menu includes links to the ink website and the "Writing with ink" guide on GitHub. Choosing one of these opens the page in your default web browser. Those sites are operated by inkle Ltd and GitHub respectively and are governed by their own privacy policies. Cuttle itself sends no information to them. A copy of the "Writing with ink" guide is bundled with the app so it can be read offline without visiting any website.
Third-Party Services
Cuttle does not integrate with any third-party services that collect user data.
Children's Privacy
Cuttle does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age.
App Store Information
When you download Cuttle from the Mac App Store, Apple may collect information according to its own privacy policy. We do not receive personally identifiable information from Apple beyond aggregated, anonymous download and crash statistics that Apple provides to all developers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
